NIKOLAUS BESTHORN
Violist

Nikolaus Besthorn is a highly talented and versatile violist known for his warm sound and distinctive interpretations. As a passionate musician, he has gained recognition for his exceptional artistry, winning numerous awards, including the Harold Craxton Prize of the Royal Academy of Music (UK). He played in prestigious venues such as the Royal Festival Hall in London, Gasteig in Munich, Wigmore Hall and the Musikverein in Vienna and is founding member of the Lironima Quartet.
During his studies in London, Nikolaus gained invaluable orchestra experience working with renowned conductors such as Semyon Bychkov, Edward Gardner, and Sir Mark Elder.
A particular highlight was serving as principal second violin of the Sainsbury Royal Academy Soloists during their sold-out concert at the Wigmore Hall in London.

Chamber music has consistently played a crucial role in his life. The Royal Academy of Music in London accepted Nikolaus to "The Frost Trust Advanced Specialist Strings Ensemble Training" program, providing him with unique chamber music opportunities.

Nikolaus is a founding member of Duo Best and of the Vienna-based Lironima Quartet, which is currently coached by Prof. Alexander Pavlovsky and Prof. Peter Schuhmayer.
He is completing his viola studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Thomas Selditz.
